The Sauerland holiday region is an excellent hiking region in North Rhine-Westphalia and Hesse. Above all, winter sports enthusiasts will find numerous skiing areas in the Sauerland. The largest ski area is the Wintersport-Arena Sauerland with many pistes and cross-country trails. Bob lovers can experience competitions in bobsleigh, skeleton and luge at the bobsleigh run in Winterberg. In summer many lakes in the region attract countless bathers. There are 17 dams, which are not only used as drinking and irrigation water, but also as local recreation areas. One of the most impressive reservoirs is Lake Bigge, which offers many water sports possibilities. With a shore area of 40 kilometres, the Möhnsee, also known as the Westphalian Sea, is the largest reservoir in the Sauerland and invites you to relax and swim.
