Holiday on the East Frisian Islands
With a friendly "Moin" you will be warmly welcomed on the East Frisian Islands. They are home to a landscape that could not be more varied. Add to this the tea tradition, the Low German language Bound the people with their unique East Frisian humour, and you have a region that is unique. A total of seven islands belong to the East Frisian: Borkum, Juist, Norderney, Baltrum, Langeoog, Spiekeroog and Wangerooge. No matter on which of the seven islands you will spend your holiday - each one has its own special charm. Borkum is the largest of the East Frisian Islands. Because of its bracing climate and clear air it is especially popular with spa holidaymakers and families. Juist deservedly bears the nickname "Töwerland" (magic land). Here you experience a different world without noise and exhaust fumes. With a handcart and horse-drawn carriage, we cross the island, which is very narrow, only 500 metres wide. White sandy beaches and endless dunes determine the landscape here. On the smallest island Baltrum there are no street names. The house numbers were determined chronologically according to the year of construction.
Kitesurfing, Stand Up Paddling and Canoeing
Water sports enthusiasts feel at home here and find ideal conditions for kitesurfing, stand up paddling and canoeing. Wangerooge is the easternmost East Frisian island. Above all, spa guests enjoy the wide range of treatments on offer, such as thalassotherapy. Families can laze and sunbathe on the white sandy beach while the little ones dig in the sand to their heart's content. Because of its high tree population, Spiekeroog is also called the "green island" of the North Sea. A special attraction is the museum horse railway - the only railway in Germany that is still pulled by horses. When touring the island, the old island church should not be missing! Probably the most famous and multi-faceted island is Norderney. The architectural silhouette of the city catches the eye even from a distance. The unique bathing history can be reconstructed in the bathing museum. You can experience it up close in the bath house, Germany's largest thalasso bath. The fine sandy beach invites you to long walks. You can enjoy the spectacular landscape on about 80 kilometres of cycle and hiking paths.
Trip to Langeoog
On the car-free island of Langeoog you can enjoy life to the full. From the ferry you can take the island train to the small town with its cosy street cafés. Here you get a first glimpse of the blooming sea buckthorn, the dikes and the grazing highland cattle. Many cycle and hiking paths lead past wild island nature, salt marshes and dune landscapes. For cyclists a tour to the Ostend is worthwhile. From here you can watch seals and birds from a natural hut. The East Frisian Islands belong to the most popular holiday destinations of the Germans. Enjoy the island charm, its unique nature and the varied recreation program.
